Biography
Leonardo DiCaprio was born on November 11, 1974, in Los Angeles as the only child of an artistic family. From childhood, he appeared in commercials and TV series. At 14, he got his first major TV role in 'Growing Pains'. In 1993, his performance as the mentally disabled Arnie in 'What's Eating Gilbert Grape' earned him his first Oscar nomination at just 19, drawing everyone's attention. In 1996, 'Romeo + Juliet' made him a teen idol. In 1997, he became a worldwide superstar as Jack Dawson in James Cameron's 'Titanic'. The film became the highest-grossing movie of its time, and DiCaprio became a global phenomenon. However, he consciously began choosing serious and challenging roles to escape the teen idol image. His collaboration with Martin Scorsese took his career to another dimension: 'Gangs of New York', 'The Aviator', 'The Departed', 'Shutter Island', and 'The Wolf of Wall Street' earned critical acclaim. Christopher Nolan's 'Inception' and Quentin Tarantino's 'Django Unchained' and 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood' were also career milestones. After being nominated six times and being called the 'Oscar-cursed actor', he finally won his Oscar in 2016 for 'The Revenant'. In his acceptance speech, he drew attention to climate change. A very active environmental activist, DiCaprio founded the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation and has donated millions to fight climate change. He is a United Nations Peace Ambassador.
